GMSR partner Alison Turner successfully represented the Los Angeles County Office of Education and Board of Education in a case challenging the procedures for revoking a charter school’s charter.
In a unanimous decision, the California Supreme Court held that the Los Angeles County Office of Education, through its Board, as the initial chartering authority for a charter school, did not have to provide a full blown evidentiary hearing before a neutral officer in order to revoke a school’s charter. In so holding, the Court clarified the standards governing charter school revocation proceedings throughout the state.
