Attorney Opportunities (Now Accepting Applications For An Appellate Associate Or Counsel)

GMSR is one of California’s premier appellate law practices. Our lawyers tackle cutting-edge legal issues on the profession’s biggest stages, including both the California and United States Supreme Courts. Our atmosphere is collegial and collaborative; we believe that the best briefs are written with an open mind, both as to formulating arguments and determining how best to present them. GMSR staffs cases leanly, most often with just a single partner and associate who work closely to generate the best possible product and the most effective mentoring dynamic. We endeavor to be a place where lawyers can make a professional home, including by providing hands-on experience while working on diverse, intellectually stimulating cases in a supportive environment—and without the crushing workload and discovery battles that often typify practice at larger firms. Reflecting the success of this approach, most GMSR partners started at the firm as associates. We support pro bono work.

Appellate Fellowship Opportunities (Accepting Applications Beginning In August 2025 For The 2026-2028 Term)

GMSR’s Appellate Fellowship offers recent law school graduates an opportunity to explore an interest in appellate advocacy and begin to develop an appellate practice early in their careers. Fellows join GMSR’s Los Angeles office for a two-year term after law school. They are fully integrated into all aspects of the firm’s work. Under the close supervision and mentorship of GMSR attorneys, fellows will perform legal research, draft legal arguments, assist attorneys in preparing for oral argument, co-author articles, and cite-check briefs and motions. GMSR hopes that fellows will go on to judicial clerkships after the fellowship.
