The Daily Journal recognized GMSR lawyers Kent Richland and Jeffrey Raskin, along with Barbara Ravitz, for their work in Sheppard Mullin v. J-M Manufacturing Co., Inc. This is Kent Richland’s third time and Jeffrey Raskin’s second time being awarded the prestigious California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) award. This is the 10th CLAY award for the appellate attorneys at Greines, Martin, Stein & Richland LLP.
GMSR won this conflicts case that the legal industry attentively followed. Kent Richland and Jeffrey Raskin represented the defendant, a large maker of plastic pipe, on its claim that the waiver it signed when it retained a large law firm was not effective because the firm failed to disclose a conflict. The published opinion reversed a $1.7 million judgment related to the underlying qui tam billion-dollar whistleblower case.
