GMSR partner Robin Meadow has once again been recognized for his role as the petitioners’ counsel in Estate of Duke (2015) 61 Cal.4th 871. He previously received the California Lawyer Attorney of the Year (CLAY) award. Now, the National Law Journal has designated Robin as a “Trailblazer” in trusts and estates law.
In Estate of Duke, Robin persuaded the California Supreme Court to depart from a doctrine that courts have followed since the first Act of Wills in 1540 – the refusal to allow wills to be reformed to correct mistakes. California courts can now consider extrinsic evidence and correct a will if the testator’s true intent is shown by clear and convincing evidence.
